For the chicken fancier who dreams of owning all the lavender and blue chicken breeds possible, the Opal Legbar is a breed you must consider! The Opal Legbar is a recently developed color variety bred from the Cream Legbar and like other Legbars, they are autosexing and sport a crest. The Opal color is actually a barred lavender. Males are barred with golden highlights while females are pearl gray with either silver barring or light straw yellow accents around their necks.
The Opal Legbar does well in a free-range setting, but can also acclimate to confinement when needed. The Opal Legbar hen lays an average of 3 to 5 eggs per week. Their eggs are a lovely sky-blue color.
The average body weight of a mature rooster is 6 pounds and a mature hen is 5.0 pounds.
