Get a jump start on your flock by ordering juvenile chickens. Meyer Hatchery's started chickens are approximately 16-20 weeks of age unless otherwise noted. They are fully vaccinated, beak trimmed, floor raised, and treated for intestinal worms, as needed. They are available for pickup at the hatchery, or we can ship them anywhere in the US. Started pullets are fully feathered and are ready for an outdoor coop space. You can read more on coop setups and recommendations on our coops and runs blog landing page.
If you have an existing flock, it is very important to make sure you have a separate space set up for your incoming started pullets. We do not recommend immediately combining the two together until you have done a quarantine period. Different locations have different pathogens that exist in the ground as well as your birds. Your existing flock may be immune to a pathogen in your environment, but new birds may succumb to those same pathogens and become ill. Isolation and close observation will help you catch any issues early.
We recommend placing your new started pullets in an isolated space for two weeks before slowly integrating new birds with your existing flock.
We recommend feeding a 16% layer feed to your started pullets.
Our started pullets go through a full vaccination program. Additionally, they are tested for Avian Influenza before leaving our property.
