White Sultan Chickens are a very old breed of poultry originally bred for the enjoyment of Turkish rulers. Sultans have several distinguishing features including a v-comb, full crest, muff and beard combined with profuse feathering on their legs and feet and an extra toe (5 total instead of the typical 4).
Because of the heavy feathering, Sultan Chickens do little damage to gardens or landscapes. Clean, dry, and covered coops help keep the Sultan’s plumage beautiful. Sultans are not classified as a production chicken although hens do lay fairly well--around 3-5 white eggs per week. Sultans are known as some of the tamest and calm chickens around, making this ornamental breed ideal for exhibition.
Average mature weight: roosters 6 lbs., hens 4 lbs.
