If you are looking for a cuddly and sweet pet bird, the Silkie breed is a must-have. Silkies lack something called barbicels, and this makes their feathers feel more like down. Because of this, they are not able to fly and they also need a warmer climate or special accommodations in the winter. They even have feathered feet! Silkies also have black skin and feet and lay around 2-4 cream-colored eggs per week. They make excellent mothers. Meyer Hatchery's Silkies are a mix of bearded and non-bearded.
Average weight: roosters 36 oz, hens 32 oz.
