Marans are highly sought after for their darker brown eggs, with the Black Coppers typically having the darkest. In fact, some French chefs will use no other chicken eggs in their cooking because they believe they have a superior taste and quality. They are also an excellent dual-purpose breed, known for their flavorful meat, fast growth, and good size of the males. Marans are a docile breed and lay 150-200 large eggs per year. Average mature weight: Roosters 8 1/2 lbs., Hens 7 lbs.
Meyer Hatchery's Assorted Marans will include at least 3 different varieties of the Marans colors we carry except the Cuckoo Marans. Please note, while Black Copper Marans may lay a darker brown egg, the others are typically various lighter shades.
This assortment is hatchery choice and we are unable to record or mark the included breeds. When ordering an assortment from Meyer Hatchery, the best part is identifying your new chicks. This is not a service Meyer Hatchery is able to provide, so to assist in this, we have created a chick identification tool that will help you out in identifying your chicks. It is also possible for your chicks to come with a leg band on them if they happen to be one of the breeds we band for ID. Bonus! But don't forget to remove those leg bands or step up a size in 7 days. If you are unable to identify right when they arrive, wait until they start to get feathers and identifying features. Happy Identifying!
