Are you looking for a beautiful, purebred pheasant? Melanistic Mutant Pheasants are a lovely iridescent greenish black when mature. Mature females will weigh about 2.5 pounds and males about 3.5 pounds. These birds do well in the wild because they are generally able to survive and reproduce making them good for release. However, always check with your state’s Department of Wildlife for regulations before ordering or releasing birds.
They do well when their habitat is comprised of corn, soybean, or small grain crop fields, about 55-70% is ideal. Grasslands, wetlands, and woodlands should also be available for the birds to thrive.
