The White Layer Duck is another breed option for our customers interested in raising ducks for high egg production. Traditionally, the Khaki Campbell is considered the top duck for laying large numbers of eggs, but you may want to consider the White Layer Duck for your backyard egg operation. Since this duck is a hybrid, subsequent hatches will not breed true. Female ducks will begin laying around 5-6 months of age. The White Layer Duck can lay up to 290 large, white eggs per year and production drops around 8-10% each year. The only production difference between the golden and the white layer ducks is that the golden layers have a slightly lower percentage of laying blue or green eggs. White Layer Ducklings are yellow at hatch and adults are pure white with orange feet, legs, and bill.
White Layers are generally calmer than the Khaki Campbells. As a hybrid, they are a vigorous breed with decreased morbidity and typically live longer than other breeds.
