Searching for a versatile dual-purpose addition to your homestead? Look no further than the Black Muscovy duck. This impressive breed not only assists with pest control but also offers lean and flavorful meat and females lay 100-150 eggs a year.
The adult Black Muscovy duck is primarily black with a beautiful greenish sheen in the right light, and they typically have white on the neck and head. What sets them apart from other duck breeds is their distinctive textured, bumpy, red skin around their faces.
Muscovy ducks are unique among ducks – they can fly and have sharp toenails for roosting in trees. They're excellent mothers, capable of brooding several clutches per year. Due to their larger size, they produce exceptionally lean meat without the greasiness found in other duck breeds. At just 12 weeks old, they can reach 12 pounds, with mature males around 15 pounds and females at about 8 pounds.
Muscovies are omnivores, skilled foragers, and are happy to assist with pest control. Their diet includes not only plants but also flies, ticks, mosquitoes, insects, and even some rodents, reducing your feed bill while providing valuable pest control services.
Muscovy females typically start laying eggs at around 6 months of age, producing 100-150 eggs per year. Muscovy eggs take about 35 days to hatch, compared to 28 days for other ducks.
Upon receiving your Muscovy ducklings, please regulate their water intake for the first few hours, gradually allowing free access to drinking water. They are shipped with a double batch of GroGel to ensure hydration during transit.
Please note that these ducklings are sold as straight run only.
