The Marans breed, originating in Marans, France is known for its majestic appearance and friendly personality. Officially accepted into the American Poultry Association in 2011, Marans are a newer breed in the United States. These deep-bodied, dual-purpose birds are often called "Chocolate Eggers" due to their ability to lay some of the darkest brown eggs, with the Black Copper variety noted for the darkest eggs. Marans can lay speckled eggs, adding unique coloring to your egg basket. They are generally quiet, calm, and make wonderful mother hens. Marans are an excellent choice for families looking for a family-friendly flock. Check out more information on the Breed Spotlight: The Marans on our blog.
