The Saxony Duck is a beautifully colored, gentle dual-purpose duck. This duck was developed in the 1930’s in Germany to be an excellent larger-sized dual-purpose bird. The Saxony duck is a great forager, which is good for insect control. They are also known for being productive egg layers and lay large predominantly white eggs.
The male Saxony Duck pattern is similar to a Mallard Duck, but they have a blue-gray head, wing marking, and tail as well as chestnut, white, and cream coloring. The female Saxony Ducks are a buff color with creamy white facial stripes, as well as a cream neck ring and underbody. Both the male and female Saxony Ducks have feathers that are close to the bird’s body, giving the duck a truly unique look. The Saxony Duck with its ability to forage, as well as being a productive egg layer, would make a great addition to any flock.
